Children Embracing in Circle

Our Community

At Flora & Fauna one of the ways we create a powerful connection with our students is through community building.  We spend time getting to know your child and your family as we learn, grow, and play together in Nature’s classroom.  Each member of our community brings a unique perspective and exciting dynamic to the group which shapes our collective identity.

Seasonal Festivals and Gatherings

We host several family-style seasonal festivals. These rituals ground us in the rhythms of the earth and are a special source of excitement and anticipation each year. We rely on parent involvement to make these nights most memorable. Birthdays are another special ritual at Flora & Fauna. Each child is crowned and celebrated with a special birthday ritual on their important day.

Class Play and Showcases

The class play or “pedagogical drama” will be presented in the late spring. This a significant opportunity for a collaboration of arts among our students.  The work we do together on the play will deepen learning, develop skill and capacity in the students, and strengthen the sense of connection.   At the end of each trimester, student's research culminates in a unique handmade project to present at the Family Showcase and Campfire Night.

Fire Circle

This community ritual will give the students a chance to reflect and connect together as a group. Students will take turn with the roles of wood chopping, pouring the water, and gathering the wood.
